A soft board, a railing that moves, steps that flex. Decks in Charlotte take sun, humidity, and thunderstorms all year, and they fail in the same order every time: the finish goes, the boards drink water, then the framing follows. Caught early, that is a repair. Left alone, it becomes a rebuild.

Text photos to (980) 391-6833 and we will tell you which one you are looking at.

We look for the repair first

Plenty of companies only want the rebuild. We would rather fix the deck you have, because most of the time that is what it actually needs, and because the homeowner who gets an honest answer this year is the one who calls us for the porch next year.

What that looks like in practice: we check the surface, the stairs, the railings, and the point where the deck attaches to the house. Then we tell you whether you are dealing with a finish problem, a board problem, or a structural one, and we price only that.

Where Charlotte decks actually fail

  • The boards nearest the house. Water runs off the siding and sits there. That is usually the first soft spot.
  • The base of the posts. Ground contact plus mulch plus irrigation is how a post rots from the bottom up while the top still looks fine.
  • The stairs. Stringers carry the most load and get the least attention.
  • The fasteners. Older decks were nailed. Nails back out, and a popped nail head is what catches a bare foot.

Repair now, or rebuild later

A deck that gets its bad boards replaced and its framing re-secured keeps going for years. A deck that gets sealed over rot fails anyway, and by then the repair has turned into a tear-out. If yours is closer to the second case, we will say so before you spend money on the first.

Planning something bigger than a repair? We also build new decks and screened porches. Start at deck building.

Signs You May Need Deck Repair

Not sure if you need help? Here are common signs it's time to call a professional.

A board feels soft or spongy underfoot
Railing moves when you lean on it
Steps flex, squeak, or a tread has pulled loose
Screws or nails backing out across the surface
Dark, damp wood near the house or at the base of a post
A post that has started to lean
Sections went down or shifted after a storm
The deck has not been sealed in several seasons

How It Works

We make getting quality deck repair simple and stress-free.

1

Free estimate, photos first

Text photos to (980) 391-6833 or request an estimate online. Photos of the surface, the stairs, and where the deck meets the house usually tell us most of what we need before anyone drives out.

2

We look for the repair path

Most decks get caught early enough to repair. We check whether the problem is finish level, board level, or structural, and we say which one it is instead of quoting the biggest job in the room.

3

Repair and reinforce

Replace the failed boards and framing, re-secure railings and stairs, swap rusted fasteners and hangers, and address the rot source so the same board does not fail again next summer.

4

Finish and clean up

Sand the repaired areas, match the finish where we can, seal what needs sealing, and leave the site clean. We walk the deck with you before we go.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my deck be repaired, or does it need a rebuild?

Usually it can be repaired. A few bad boards, a loose railing, or broken steps do not mean the whole deck is done. What matters is catching it before rot and movement spread into the framing. When the posts or joists are genuinely past saving, we tell you straight and scope a rebuild instead of patching something unsafe.

How fast can you get out here?

For a safety issue, a section down after a storm, or a railing that has come loose, call (980) 391-6833 and we will prioritize it. Standard deck repairs are usually scheduled within the same week.

When should I stop using the deck?

If the deck shifts underfoot, railings move, steps are loose, posts look rotten, or boards feel soft, stay off that area until someone looks at it. Safety concerns may need an in-person visit before we can give a final price.

What does deck repair cost?

It depends on how much of the deck is involved, whether the damage stopped at the boards or reached the framing, and what the deck is built from. Our minimum for any repair visit is $300, and you get the price before we start. No surprises at the end.

Do you repair composite and Trex decks too?

Yes. Composite boards do not rot, but the framing under them is still wood and still fails. We replace damaged composite boards, re-secure railings, and repair the wood structure underneath.

Should I repair the deck or just refinish it?

Sealing a deck with soft boards or loose framing buys you a better-looking problem. We repair the structure first, then sand and seal, so the finish is protecting something solid.

Do you handle decks in South Charlotte and Ballantyne?

Yes. South Charlotte, Ballantyne, Pineville, Matthews, and the surrounding Charlotte neighborhoods are where we work every week.
